Why Wellknowlogy?
Aren't there enough newsletters?
You may wonder why I’m doing this newsletter thing so I figured I’d briefly explain why I’m doing it and why I think it’s valuable.
Combining Purpose with Pleasure
With my passion for the mission of increasing wellbeing and my enjoyment of tracking the future through technology, I figured it may be personally valuable to blend the two. I learn a lot about ways to promote wellbeing and I like to share what I learn, so why not publish it?
If people like you care to read my meanderings and check out interesting links, all the better. The convergence of cutting edge tech, business, and the pursuit of wellbeing is interesting and constantly evolving. Communication, in the right doses, can benefit everyone involved in better understanding this evolution.
Business and the Greater Good
While the business side of the wellness world can be less altruistic, I’d argue that uniting the powerful motor of business and capital behind something positive like increasing wellbeing can enhance our lives and the world as a whole.
Granted, this alignment requires some integrity and awareness of the motives driving companies, investors, and customers. All I can do there is do my best to act as a filter and information funnel to give you the news, articles, and updates that are most important to understanding and upholding an ethical and effective wellness ecosystem. Equal parts power and precision are needed to enact meaningful change; neither should be left out.
Seeing the Forest
I’m also hoping that you or anybody else reading will come away with a better handle on the foundational ways to holistically improve wellbeing.
When I use the word holistic, I’m referring to the many interlocking aspects of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual development that form a truly stable foundation for wellness. Many seem to take slivers of this system, whether it be big muscles or meditation, and use those as a proxy for the broader pursuit of wellbeing. I don’t need to tell you this, but the value of meditation only goes so far when your body is falling apart, and the benefits of big muscles don’t reach that deeper layer of satisfaction if emotions and mental states are consistently overwhelming. It’s the tightly interwoven pieces that provide true strength and sustainability.
Dip, not drown
Lastly, I’d like to believe that what I’m publishing is a nice alternative to the trend in news and information which constantly berates you with notifications and blurbs to compete for as much of your attention as possible. What I'm referring to are publications that prioritize their page views over your time and attention, resulting in frequent hits of shallow content.
Contrarily, I aim for a product that’s delivered once a week and takes as little as five minutes to read (not including whatever deeper dives you find compelling) so you can stay aware of what’s new without a significant commitment in attention or stress. I hope this is a nice way to take a dip (and not drown) in the ocean of information that’s out there.
Looking Forward
While this is how I currently see things, I’m aware that things are bound to change, so the thoughts in this essay likely will too. Thank you for taking the time to check out Wellknowlogy. As always, please reach out if you have any suggestions, questions, or ideas on what I’ve written here, the newsletter, or anything tangentially related. You’re well aware of the sincere joy that I get from discussing this stuff and the desire I have to improve, so you know contact on these fronts will never be a burden.
Hope you’re well and enjoying wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.
Warmly,
Dayton
